Gunflash

Shortly after Christmas 1949 Bert received a marvellous letter from the Arsenal Supporters Club.  They had been so impressed with the penalty save that they put it on their front cover of the next issue of the supporters’ magazine “Gunflash”. Over 7 decades (2017) later I ask the question, “would this ever happen today”, not in a million years?

They were kind enough to send Bert a copy of the magazine as well as the letter.

The hope that Arsenal and Wolves would meet in the FA CUP FINAL at Wembley didn’t materialise as Wolves fell by the wayside but Arsenal got to the twin towers and beat Liverpool 2-0.

This marvellous letter highlights all that is wrong with football today as deceit and avarice lead the way in front of sportsmanship and good manners.
